What is SCITT?
School-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) enables graduates to enter the teaching profession through a school-based route that offers both the conventional PGCE (Post Graduate or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education) validated by Birmingham City University and extensive classroom experience, all in the one year.

What if I can’t find a school?
The SCITT Programme will place you at least two schools during your training period.

What qualifications do I need to be considered for the course?
You must have:

• A UK degree or equivalent qualification giving graduate status
• GCSE English Language, science and mathematics (A* – C grades) (an equivalence test in mathematics and/or English is available in some circumstances).

Will I be eligible for financial assistance?
UK trainees will be eligible to receive a training bursary of £4,000. Trainees can apply to Student Finance England for means-tested and non-means tested grants up to £2,906. Further means-tested financial assistance may be available from Titan.

What qualifications will I achieve?
On successful completion of the course all trainees will be awarded Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at ‘H Level’. In addition to this award trainees will have the opportunity to study for credits towards Masters level qualification whilst training or in the years following their training. Trainees will also be awarded Qualified teacher Status (QTS).

What are the skills tests?
The qualified teacher status (QTS) skills tests cover the core skills in numeracy, literacy and information and communications technology (ICT) needed to fulfil your wider professional role in a school.

Passing the skills tests in numeracy, literacy and ICT is one of the standards that all trainee teachers in England have to meet before they can be recommended for the award of QTS by their initial teacher training (ITT) provider. Computerised QTS skills tests were introduced in 2001 for anyone seeking to qualify as a teacher.
