Do I need to pass the Skills Tests?

You will need to pass your skills tests in Numeracy and Literacy before being recommended for QTS.

How long will I have to complete the assessment?

You will have 3 months from being registered with the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

Will I be paid?

Your school may continue to pay your salary.  The cost of the assessment can be met by either yourself or your school or a combination of both.

What are the consecutive age ranges?

Ages 3-5 (Foundation stage)
Ages 5-7 (School years 1-2)
Ages 7-9 (School years 3-4)
Ages 9-11 (School years 5-6)
Ages 11-14 (School years 7-9)
Ages 14-16 (School years 10-11)
Ages 16-19 (School years 12-13)

Will I be exempt from Induction?

No, all Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) must successfully complete induction to continue teaching in a maintained or non-maintained special school.  The statutory induction period (normally 3 school terms) combines an individualised programme of professional development with assessment against the Teachers’ Standards.

Do I need to find my own school?

For our SCITT and School Direct programmes, we will place you in, at least, two schools during your training period.
